Before I gave my little introduction of Catherine Caine in this interview, we chatted for a moment, and I asked her how she wanted to be introduced. Catherine quipped that someone had recently referred to her as “Queen of Awesome Sauce,” and although it didn’t make it into the recording, I had to mention it!
Awesome Sauce indeed!
Although Catherine isn’t an artist herself, she’s a great example of someone who figured out the value she had to offer the world, and allowed that to evolve.
A button-making machine led Catherine to dive into the world of websites and technology. Within a year or so of launching her own online business, though, her focus drifted as she honed in on what she really had to offer that was special, unique, and truly valuable. By June of 2010 she had quit her 9-5 job – yay Catherine!
The more Catherine refined her target market, the better her business did. She now targets an audience of “delightful weirdos,” and people who identify as such become her dedicated fans.
