South African singer/songwriter and innovator Verity Price is a model of what you can do when you set your mind to it. With no musical background or previous inclination, she wrote a song on her 20th birthday, which led, ultimately, to a full-time career in music.
One of Verity’s innovations, which got her a lot of press, was to get funding from her fan base for her album… before she even started recording it! (I learned this same trick at a seminar and raised the money for my first CD from my fans, but at $2,000, my budget was a fraction of Verity’s $50-70,000 one!)
I find Verity a huge inspiration, also, for the charity work she does to help those less fortunate than she is to go after their own musical dreams.
