So, a press kit… I’m rejigging my pdf “portfolio” that includes my resume/biog, example work and artist statement that I send to galleries so that it would be more journalist friendly. I also need to hunt out all my press clippings and scan to include too… Is that right?
Correct.
Question: the video mentions that we should already have identified our influencers, but it looks like that’s something that’s covered in Module 3. Could you please clarify?
You should have some idea of who they might be, but if you don’t, that’s ok. You can focus your early efforts this week on more traditional media.
Hi Cory,
Very excited about this. I have a very unique situation where I work in real estate and my bosses got an exclusive to a huge artist/duplex loft downtown in chelsea. It used to belong to an artist who past away (we all gotta go sometime) and they have allowed me to put my work up in this 13′ loft. I have someone who is in marketing that will help me do a campaign using my website that is set up with facebook pixels so I can get the demographics of interested people. My boss would like to promote it with a theme like “Real Estate, Art & Photography” since her partner is a professional photographer. Have it on a Thursday evening, when a lot of the galleries are opened downtown and provide prosecca and light snacks. They know a lot of people in the business world that have the bucks and I can also use a flyer to put in all the mailboxes of the brokers in the company, that take 3 floors of the building I work in. I can still contact the journalists and move forward but this theme of real estate and art is becoming very popular in NYC. We are planning on mid June to do this. I’ll also hire a friend who is video movie maker to be there and move around the activities to take photos and maybe speak to some people. What do you think about this idea? best, Len
I’m in nyc too… would love to hear more about this and how it works out for you!
I am wondering about the need for high resolution images for the press section for the PR kit. I have been able to find a website where the articles and covers of each of the magazines are shown, but the quality of the images aren’t that great. I have done screen shots of them and then placed them in my Press section of the PR kit. I can’t zoom in and see all the words like you can on the sample one you gave us. Does this matter?
Yes, you’ll need high res images of your own work for magazines. If you’re talking about just showing which magazines you’ve been featured in, then no you don’t need that.
I sure would like some examples of press kits from starting artists. It’s a little intimidating to build my press kit based on one with Ryan Reynolds and Vogue articles! Do you have anything a couple steps down the fame ladder?
Thanks!
