If you are a mosaic artist, you are probably familiar with the Society of American Mosaic Artists and their annual conference.
This year it’s being held in Houstin, Texas, and I’m a speaker on the first night of the conference. You should join us!
We’re going to talk about how mosaic artists can build their art business over the web.
If you are a mosaic artist, I would love to potentially feature you in my presentation. Leave a comment below and answer these questions, and I’ll let you know if I’m going to include you.
1. Your website link?
2. What is one way you market your mosaics online?
3. Your biggest question about marketing mosaics?
Erna Bjork Antonsdottir says
Is this open for mosaic artist outside US. I am from Iceland and studied mosaics in Ravenna, Italy. My marteting oneline is mainly through my website mosaic.is and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Erna-Bj%C3%B6rk-mosaicis/160833160522
My biggest question is how I can market my mosaics abroad.
Cory Huff says
Kelley – Thanks for the response. The key is to build relationships with people who have money. That means getting your work on the right websites that they read, coverage on the right magazines & blogs, and showing WIP pictures on social media with the goal of getting people to join your mailing list and continue developing a relationship with you over time.
I’ll address this in my presentation.
Kelley Knickerbocker says
Marketing on line via Facebook, my website, electronic newsletter. Biggest question: how can I get my artwork in front of people who are looking to spend $3K-10K on artwork? (Many folks on-line are looking for bargains, especially on mosaic since slave-made knockoffs are out there for cheap.)
Hector H Hernandez MA, MFA says
1.- I have a main web site http://www.hectorhh.com and this web side is linked to http://www.behance.net/hectorhh
2.- I mostly use behance web site to market my works but at this point I apply to call for artists.
3.- I use also pinterest and etsy but I’ve always received requests directly or from word of mouth. Behance site is excelent for portafolios display purposes and promotion

Thanks Hector!

Hi, I am an Australian Mosaic ARtist/instructor.
14 years teaching, making mosaic art commissions, selling online and workshops at OzMosaics studio.
Please visit my website and if you are interested to include me in your presentation, please let me know if I can provide any more info on how I market my business.
I use social media, website to market my art and workshops and supplies.
I am planning an online school which is almost completed.
Marketing mosaics question? Most want to know how to price their works to sell online and in galleries and how to be competitive and have a mosaic edge when marketing.
Thank you
Kind regards
Sandy Robertson – Australia.
Cory Huff says
Hi Sandy – Thanks so much. Will you please let me know when your online school is done or near done?
As for pricing to sell online, most successful online artists make smaller pieces that justify smaller prices, which gets people in the door and starts a relationship that can develop into larger pieces over time.

I am answering the three questions here…hope this is correct.
1.I have two websites for my two mosaic art businesses
http://www.santabarbaraschoolofmosaicart.com
http://www.allcrackedupmosaics.com
2.groupon, facebook, websites, instagram, twitter
3.where is the best place to market mosaics online? and how?
Cory Huff says
Tami – how did Groupon work out for you? That’s very interesting.
tami says
Hi Cory
As a matter of fact Groupon has worked out really well for me. I have my studio at home and live Santa Barbara and our home is on a half acre. So people really enjoy coming to my studio, they see what I am working on, they get to work outside “most of the year” and it is a really comfortable and enjoyable environment. I have gotten quite a bit of feedback from my students asking me to keep my studio where it is at and not move it to a public space. With that said, Groupon has worked well because my overhead is low and I have designed a specific one day Beginner workshop that gives people an introduction into mosaics. During that day I let them know that if they sign up for a future class I teach they will get a 10% discount on their next workshop. So the hook works about 20-60% of the time. So Groupon has definitely built my student base. Including, just recently I returned from teaching for a week in Todos Santos, Mexico for my first Mosaic Art Retreat. I ended up getting two of my six students through my latest Groupon campaign. I have heard others, Groupon was not successful but I am willing to share my story if it helps.
Cheers,
Tami

Hi Cory,
1. Your website link? – http://www.cheriebosela.com/
2. What is one way you market your mosaics online? – I use my website, social media, sell at a local gallery and I show at local art shows and festivals. Soon I will be sending out a newsletter.
3. Your biggest question about marketing mosaics? My mosaics range in price from $15 to $15,000. I would like to know how to market my more expensive mosaics and how do I know the right people are seeing them. I don’t have any problems with selling the under $200 mosaics.
Thanks,
Cherie
Cory Huff says
Thanks Cherie!
Lisa Anderson says
Hi, there! I am a mosaic artist in the Houston area. I have a website, http://www.barefootintheglass.com
I find that having a website with a catchy name helps when doing a show or meeting someone just out and about. They can usually remember a website easier than your name. I try to make the website full of my ‘blingiest’ work so that they will remember it, i.e. My mixed media guitars
My biggest on-line media marketing tool is Facebook. With the changes Facebook has made recently, my artist friends and I are trying new ways to keep our ‘reach’ numbers up without paying to ‘boost’ our ratings. All-in-all, for the price (free) Facebook is by far the most effective marketing for me.
If I can assist you in any way while you are in Houston, please contact me….817-420-4050 Thank you, Lisa Anderson
Cory Huff says
Thanks Lisa! I’m looking forward to meeting you and the other artists at the conference!
Rebecca Collins says

Hi,
Here is the link to where I currently have some of my work for sale:
https://www.etsy.com/shop/revelationartist?ref=si_shop
I have used, Facebook, Ebay, craigslist, & Etsy to market my work. I have been doing mosaics for a few years and have sold some of my pieces & lately I have not had any luck in selling any of my work. I won’t give up because I love creating mosaics. I am looking for ways to market my work and I would love to do this full time & quit my housecleaning jobs. I live in an area (Lake Elsinore, Ca. where people out here have no $$.) I would love to find ways out of my area to market my work. I currently have done small things but eventually want to work on larger items when I get some $$ coming in and to buy a bigger vehicle to transport my pieces. I just have a small car I use to transport my pieces and also to haul hay to feed my horse.
Anyone here can help me out here?

marketing online attempts (mostly unsuccessful! gah! people want everything to be $5 or $10, which is frustrating for the amount of time and materials that go into making mosaics): blog (drollgirl.com), instagram (ohyespleaseandthankyou), etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/ohyespleasethankyou) and occasionally on twitter (@drollgirlbabe) and facebook (drollgirl)
biggest question about marketing mosaics: i love love love making mosaics, but would like to sell them to help facilitate/finance my rather expensive habit/passion/efforts. ha. if that makes sense. 🙂 finding a willing and able audience would be nice!
